Access to statistics and data

The Magistrates’ Court Annual Report contains data and statistics relating to the various functions performed by the Court. Past reports are available on our website HERE.

The Sentencing Advisory Council has developed an online tool (SACStat) for accessing sentencing statistics. It includes data for more than 500 different offences sentenced in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria. The tool is available on their website HERE.

Requests from media organisations seeking statistical information that is outside the scope of the Court’s Annual Report must be in writing identifying the following:

  • the data required
  • the period of time in respect of which the data is required
  • details of the requesting organisation / media outlet / agency and contact
  • the context in which the data is required (i.e. what is the question being explored)
  • an outline of the nature of the story or research perspective 
  • how the material will be used

The request must be made in writing (email acceptable) to the Court’s Strategic Communications team.

The release of such information will be subject to:any legal prohibitionthe Court’s available resources at any given time the permission of the chief executive officer.
