Use of electronic equipment in court

Journalists are not allowed to take photos or to make audio or video recordings of court proceedings without the permission of the presiding magistrate.

Mobile phones are not to be used to make or receive phone calls while in a courtroom.

Electronic devices, including phones, laptops and tablets, are allowed for taking notes and filing stories but these devices cannot be used if they disrupt the court in any way.

No electronic device is to be used for instantaneous publication while in the courtroom, such as live blogging or social media posts.

Failing to comply with these guidelines may result in expulsion from the courtroom and confiscation of the offending electronic device.

If you are in doubt about whether you can use a device in court, please ask the bench clerk for clarification.

Please refer to the court's Use of electronic devices policy.
