Trainee Court Registrars -   Recruitment Open

The next recruitment campaign for trainee court registrars will open on Wednesday 9 May 2012.  Applications close at midnight on Wednesday 23 May 2012.

Candidates are encouraged to find out further information about the role of a trainee court registrar by observing in a court room at any Magistrates’ Court.

Court Registrars provide administrative support to the Victorian Court system, which has sites throughout Victoria. Becoming a Court Registrar requires an extensive training period, which includes formal study together with on-the-job learning.

The requirements of the role include the following:

  • Successfully complete the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services).
  • Provide exceptional levels of customer service to key stakeholders including the judiciary, police, the legal profession, and members of the public with diverse backgrounds and experience.
  • Work alongside the judiciary in the courtroom, performing a wide range of administrative duties.

Some travel between court locations may be required.

Study requirements

On commencement of employment with the Magistrates' Court, Trainee Court Registrars will be enrolled in Certificate IV in Government (Court Services).  This course consists of some classroom-based study, some private study components and on-the-job learning.  

The course will take two years to complete on a part-time basis and is funded by the Courts.  You will be required to attend the education provider’s CBD campus approximately one day per month for classroom-based study.

At the end of the two years, and the successful completion of all subjects, a Trainee may be appointed as a Qualified Court Registrar. 

What are we looking for?

  • Team players with the ability to meet tight deadlines with attention to detail, demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, and competent computer skills.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional levels of customer service and being sensitive to the needs of others.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise daily work and demonstrated problem solving abilities.
  • VCE/HSC (or equivalent), tertiary course or work experience in a relevant field.
  • Willingness to work at different Court locations within the State.

Salary

The salary range for a Trainee Court Registrar is - $40,771 - $52,357 plus superannuation (current at October 2010)

The commencement salary for Trainee Court Registrars is $40,771 plus superannuation.

Process Timeline

Applications close midnight Wednesday 23 May 2012

 

Advertising period Wednesday 9 May to midnight Wednesday 23 May
Stage 1:  Applications are screened and short listed

Approximately 3 weeks

Unsuccessful candidates from Stage 1 will be notified via email by mid June

Stage 2: Short listed candidates are invited to an assessment centre where they will participate in an interview and various work related activities.

Completed by mid July

Candidates from stage 2 will be notified by the end July of the recruitment outcomes.

Successful candidates are appointed to current vacancies, or go on a waitlist for future vacancies.

Successful candidates will be appointed to immediate vacancies at the conclusion of the recruitment process.  Candidates on the waitlist will be considered for future vacancies within 6 months. The wait list is valid for 6 months.
