A:

Your preferred work locations will be taken into account; however, there is no guarantee that you will be offered any of your preferences.

Trainee Court Registrars are required to transfer through various sections and different locations of the Magistrates’ Court within the State. They may also be required to transfer to different jurisdictions eg. County Court and VCAT.

Staff may be transferred between regional and metropolitan courts anywhere between 6 – 24 months.

Q: What is my starting salary and how can I progress?
A:

The starting salary for a Trainee Court Registrar is $40,771 plus superannuation.  This salary will be offered to all successful applicants.

Progression to a higher salary is subject to meeting agreed outcomes in an annual Performance Development Plan, which includes successful completion of all components of the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services).

Based on this criteria, and after a minimum of twelve months, you will receive a salary increase to $42,425 plus superannuation, and once you qualify, after a minimum of two years, you will receive a second salary increase to $45,736 plus superannuation.

Q: Do I have to pay for the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services)?
A:

No. The Department of Justice will meet all tuition fees and any costs associated with attendance at the monthly Contact Days.

Q: What happens at the end of the two-year traineeship?
A:

At the end of this period, and on successful completion of all subjects, a Trainee may be appointed as a Qualified Court Registrar.
