Career as a Court Registrar - FAQs
| Q: | Do I have a choice of my initial work location? |
| A: | Your preferred work locations will be taken into account; however, there is no guarantee that you will be offered any of your preferences. There is a transfers policy that affects all staff. The policy requires staff to work in different court locations and across different jurisdictions (including the County Court, Supreme Court and VCAT). Staff may be rotated between locations/jurisdictions (both regional and metropolitan) anywhere between 6 – 24 months. |
| Q: | What is my starting salary and how can I progress? |
| A: | The starting salary for a Trainee Court Registrar is $39,000. This salary will be offered to all successful applicants. Progression to a higher salary is subject to meeting agreed outcomes in an annual Performance Development Plan, which includes successful completion of all components of the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services). After twelve months you receive an increment based on these criteria, and once you Qualify after two years, you receive a second increment. |
| Q: | How is the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) delivered? |
| A: | The course is delivered by RMIT at its city campus. All Trainees are required to attend designated contact days during work hours. The course commences with two weeks of intensive classes. A further week of intensive classes is held during the first semester. Trainees additionally attend classes approximately once per month. The course combines classroom-based and workplace-based learning. Trainees will complete assessments in the workplace to satisfy the requirements of the course. |
| Q: | Do I have to pay for the Certificate IV in Government (Court Services)? |
| A: | No. The Department of Justice will meet all tuition fees and any costs associated with attendance at the contact days. |
| Q: | What happens at the end of the two-year traineeship? |
| A: | At the end of this period, and on successful completion of all subjects, a Trainee may be appointed as a Qualified Court Registrar. Qualification is subject to successfully completing the Qualification interview process, which leads to an increment in pay and further career progression opportunities. |
