Court Achieves White Ribbon Accreditation

The Magistrates Court has officially been accredited by White Ribbon Australia.

The process for accreditation began 18 months ago when the Court established a White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation Program Committee.

In reaching accreditation the committee had a number of achievements including implementing a Family Violence leave policy and supporting staff to access this leave (which was included in the VPS Determination for the first time).

Training for staff was rolled out state-wide. The purpose being to improve the understanding and responses to violence against woman in the workplace and to gain an understanding of gender equality, the issues surrounding it and to learn how to support staff who may be experiencing family violence. Staff also took the oath at White Ribbon Day events around the state in 2015 & 2016.

The Leadership Group approved an organisation vision statement for use on internal and external communications:

"Magistrates' Court of Victoria’s vision is that all employees access and enjoy the same rights, responsibilities, resources and opportunities regardless of their gender, identity or cultural beliefs.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria is committed to providing a safe and respectful workplace and has zero tolerance for violence against women."

We are now one of 107 organisations accredited in Australia.

White Ribbon have published a video and media release to celebrate the accreditation.
