Historic Cobram courthouse reopens

The historic Cobram courthouse has reopened its doors today and will commence court sittings from Wednesday 18 October.

The courthouse had been closed since March last year when a fire destroyed the majority of the building. Fortunately, the exterior was left intact enabling the court to be restored.

The century-old courthouse has been restored to its initial specifications with minor upgrades to improve accessibility and safety. Although some external works are continuing until next month, the court is officially back in operation today and will no longer be sitting at the temporary site set up in the CFA building. The court will operate its standard operating hours on Wednesdays (contact Shepparton Law Courts at all other times).

An official opening event will be held on completion of the works later next month. The community will be invited to celebrate the court’s reopening and walk through the historic courthouse. For information about court operations, visit magistratescourt.vic.gov.au.
